Jury Statement
Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 2025 is imagined as a one-month-long conversation between the 41 selected artists, collectives and communities. This scattered selection of works and voices forms an assemblage—where the personal meets the universal, the subjective meets the collective and the specific meets the general. Where collective acts, representations of spaces and communities, and personal cosmologies meet at the junction of desire and comprehension to find solidarity in diffusion.
This year’s jury process has been informed by the open call, where it was encouraged for other practices and constellations to apply, one being the collection. The collection can be a place for the mundane or the political, can have a specific order or be randomly put together. But every collection represents a specific form of grasping memories and stories, and in the exhibition, the act of collecting becomes an essential part of picking up “the struggle against dispersion.” Apart from introducing the collection in this context, a stage has been brought in as an integral component of the space, to emphasize the temporary state of the Spring Exhibition. It is not only a stage for a live program, but also a reminder of anticipation and that this is a place of sheer imagination.
One could argue that the concept of the Spring Exhibition is an ever-changing set of possibilities and combinations of what it could be. This year’s exhibition is presenting idiosyncrasies, paradoxes and visible contrast, to initiate a conversation that could be fruitful and compelling. And like most enriching conversations they don’t always end up with a clear-cut conclusion, but rather a new arrangement of insights, speculations and questions.
A big thanks to each and every artist who has applied, to the board and the daily manager of Charlottenborg Fonden Klara Li for your dedication and trust.
